Melissa Spina

Melissa began tutoring in high school, helping her fellow students understand difficult concepts and appreciate the subjects being taught.  Since then she has spent roughly 15 years teaching all levels of mathematics, chemistry, physics, Spanish, SAT I and II, and AP exams. She has extensive experience with private students as well as small classes, ranging from elementary-school, teenage and college age students.  In addition, she has taught a calculus workshop for a program that was a joint effort by Cerritos College and Cal State Long Beach.

Throughout her several years of teaching experience, Melissa has found that her students enjoy her classes because she finds innovative ways of engaging them in mathematics, physics, and chemistry; subjects that are usually not well-received.  Using her physics and mathematics academic background from UCLA, and the engineering skills gained from her professional experience, Melissa is able to incorporate challenging, real-life applications and fun exercises into her lessons. The result has been that her students learn not only science, mathematics, and problem-solving skills, but also that knowing these subjects is both necessary and fun.  Melissa is devoted to helping students gain the knowledge and confidence they need to succeed.
